Gastronomy Internship Program
The Charlestown Farm Center offers gastronomy internships for chefs and culinary students interested in learning about organic meat and vegetable production as a means to enhance their understanding of the raw ingredients in the foods they cook. The internships are flexible in duration and scope based on the needs of the interns. The internships can be as brief as a few days or as long as a month or scheduled for one day each week for an extended period to coincide with the closing day of a restaurant.

The intern can participate only in harvesting or help in all aspects of the farming process including planting, cultivating and harvesting vegetables and feeding and caring for livestock. Through this work the interns will develop an understanding of such issues as the seasonality of vegetables, how to determine when to harvest vegetables at the height of their freshness, how to source foods locally, what factors affect the quality and availability of farm products, what vegetable varieties taste best, what grows best in our region, etc.

The intern will prepare dishes in our professional kitchen using Farm supplied vegetables. The dishes will be offered to CSA members to sample on pick-up days and used to develop a compilation of recipes featuring Farm produced ingredients to be made available to CSA members.

The internship offers a $500/month stipend for long-term interns, on farm housing in a large, communal house with high speed Internet, professional kitchen, walking trails, pond and creek swimming, and abundant vegetables and eggs.
