Charlestown Farm Center offers a variety of educational programs.



Gastronomy Internship Program This program is flexible and can be tailored to the educational needs and schedule of a professional chef or culinary student. Participants with a strong background in food preparation learn about organic foods, seasonality, rare heirloom vegetble varieties, local sourcing etc. through working in different aspects of the Farm operation and preparing tastings for Farm members. School Groups The Center welcomes school groups and has prepared a curriculum based on the new Pennsylvania State Standards for Agriculture and Ecology and the Environment. Students will learn about the water cycle, the needs of plants, integrated pest management, renewable energy and specialized farm equipment. Colleges and Universities The Center hosts visits by area colleges and university ecology classes. The Farm operation serves as an in-the-field laboratory where students can observe sustainable farming practices. Students learn about crop rotation, soil fertility, water conservation, renewable energy and crop diversity. For more information, contact Liz Andersen at liz@charlestownfarmcenter.org.

Cooking Workshops The Center hosts regularly scheduled cooking workshops from May through November, to teach members of the community how to prepare healthy dishes using seasonal produce. The calendar for the 2007 workshops will be posted in March.


Environmental Film Series Come to the Center for outdoor screenings of environmental films. Specific details will be posted as they are scheduled.
